Focus and Scope
The Journal of Language Intelligence and Culture (JLIC) is an international, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to interdisciplinary research at the intersection of language, culture, cognition, interculturality, identity, and ethics. JLIC conceptualizes language intelligence as the cognitive, sociocultural, intercultural, and ethical capacity to understand, negotiate, and construct meaning across linguistic and cultural boundaries. The journal examines language not only as a means of communication but also as a medium for knowledge construction, identity formation, cultural engagement, ethical development, and social transformation.
JLIC welcomes empirical, theoretical, conceptual, and interdisciplinary research in language education and applied linguistics, including intercultural communicative competence, culturally responsive pedagogy, multilingual and bilingual education, curriculum and assessment, language and identity, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, pragmatics, discourse studies, language ideology, and technology-enhanced language learning. Particular attention is given to English and Arabic language education, as well as literary, heritage (turath), and culturally grounded studies that explore ethical and value-based approaches to language and education, including perspectives informed by Islamic epistemologies and traditions.
The journal especially encourages research that brings Global South, multicultural, multilingual, Muslim-majority, and Muslim-minority perspectives into international scholarship. JLIC seeks studies that connect culturally situated knowledge with broader debates in language education and contribute to more inclusive, ethical, intercultural, and culturally responsive approaches to language learning, teaching, and communication.
